On this date in 1994, Byron De La Beckwith was convicted for the murder of civil rights activist Medgar Evers. It was the third trial for this murder, the first two trials in 1964 ending in mistrials by all male and all white juries. The third trial was the subject of the movie Ghosts of Mississippi.
