On this date in 1980, the US Olympic hockey team beat Finland in the gold medal game to complete the Miracle on Ice during the 1980 Winter Olympics. It is impossible to overstate how big a victory the win over the Soviets two days earlier was, coming during the Cold War, shortly before the US in fact boycotted the 1980 Moscow Summer Olympic Games. The emotion of the moment was captured perfectly by Al Michaels.
