West Wing (cont)

Well I felt they handled Leo's death well. I especially liked Josh's and Vinnick's comments about bringing in the lawyers. To be honest I think devoting all, or a majority , of next week's episode to Leo's funeral is a little self-indulgent, but they have earned the right to it, especially knowing that the series is ending. It was pretty clear from the beginning that Santos was going to win, but they made Vinnick more human than I expected them to. (Although most of the Republican staffers were caricatures.)

If they announce one, I still give it a 60% chance that C.J. is named VP, 25% it is Vinnick, (yes I said Vinnick) and 10% it is not a main character and 5% it is Josh. (yes I said Josh).

LA Dodgers 2006 Pt 2

Damn. I watched my first Dodger game (actually two) of the year today. The only names I recognized used to play for other teams.

Looks like the new team in charge really did understand how screwed up things were and virtually cleaned house. It's a brand new team, and while it looks promising, it also looks OLD. It's nothing but rookies and 35 year olds.

Illegal Immigration Debate

Here's a little food for thought for those of you engaging in the illegal immigration debate.

First, an article pointing out the hypocrisy in Mexico's position on illegal immigration. (It is a PDF)

Second, a copy of the Mexican Constitution, translated into English.

Update 4/9/06: Larry Elders' column of 4/6/06. Charles Krauthammer's column of 4/8/06.

Basic Instinct 2

Basic Instinct 2 tanked at the box office. The director is trying to blame President Bush and the current "political culture" of the US. I think it is more "basic" than that. Have you got a good look at Sharon Stone lately? She has never been my kind of woman, but she was considered sexy by most at one time. But now? I don't think so. As far as I am concerned, she's a posterchild for the horrors of plastic surgery.

Cynthia McKinney

Does anybody else think she blew up this incident with the security guard on purpose because she knew the story about her spending money flying Isaac Hayes out to her district was about to break?

Or am I giving her too much credit for being able to do something like that deliberately?

West Wing

Josh and Donna finally jump in the sack! I hope whatever else they do, the writers let them get marrried. So that's how they are getting around John Spencer's death, an election night heart attack. I'll give you 2:1 the new VP is CJ Craig.

Visas? We Doan Need No Stinkin' Visas!! Pt. 10

This is why I oppose any form of amnesty or legalization of illegal immigrants.

If we legalize this crop of 12 million illegal immigrants, all we will do is get 12 million more.

My New Favorite Song

I just heard my new favorite song. It beats anything that Green Day has done recently. The band is called The Right Brothers. They have a website at TheRightBrothers.com

More Political Correctness?

I just saw a Volkswagon commecial on a Spanish language television channel that was using a Speedy Gonzalez cartoon as a commercial. But heaven forbid that an English channel would actually show the cartoons, that would be racist!

Is this anything like only Black people being allowed to use the word nigger?

Quick, who has the rights to the Frito Bandito?

Springtime for Kim Jung Il and North Korea

Someone has written a musical based on life in one of North Korea's labor camps, Yoduk Story. One of the choreographers, Kim Yong-soon was sent to a labor camp for gossiping about Kim Jong Il's love life. The play was written by Jeong Song-san, who also has escaped from the North. One of the big songs is All I want is Rice.

You just can't make this stuff up.

College Basketball Pt 2

I'm in three pools over at The Irish Trojan's blog. (He went to USC as an undergrad, and is now attending ND Law School) I blew the NCAA men's pool, I have a chance at finishing fourth in the NCAA Women's pool, and have a good chance at winning the NIT pool tonight. Some more minor fame and bragging rights comes my way!

Keith Richards Memorial Plans?

The original walking dead is getting older than ever. There are rumors circulating the more elite New York nightclubs about the disposition of his remains. The main rumor has it that Keith is going to have his body dessicated, and then ground into powder. The powder will then be distibuted to an underground nightclub in London, New York and L.A.

At each of these nightclubs, one of the surviving Stones will ritually cook the powder, and inject the other patrons while Stones albums play in the background. Groupies are even now injecting bigger and bigger doses of heroin to build up an immunity so they won't immediately overdose.

I have Keith in my Deadpool, so hopefully we will find out soon if these rumors are true.

Reliable Sources

I just saw Markos from Daily Kos on reliable sources. First thought, where was the balancing Conservative blogger?

Markos dropped a lot of his leftwing cant during this segment, most of which we have heard before. Some of the more notable:

* There is a Vast Rightwing Conspiracy (tm) and it controls the AM dial, Washington Post, Fox News, and the think tanks.

* There is no liberal media, and the traditional media has been too easy on Pres. Bush.

* Conservatives bully media figures in order to intimidate them, and he vows the Left will now begin doing the same.

This guy is truly delusional.

Gabby Johnson Would Be Proud

Today one of the reporters covering the pro-immigration rallies yesterday came out with this gem:

"They are upset with H.R. 4437 because it would criminalize the undocumented workers who are here illegally."

It's the Economy Stupid!

I was watching Neil Cavuto this morning, and they did a segment on the status of the economy. Everyone agreed that in every way the economy today is better and stronger than during the Clinton administration. But if you only listened to the MSM asnd the Democratic leadership (wow..what a coincidence) you would think we were in the middle of a depression. Everyone (accept the Democratic party activist) acknowledged that the MSM and the Democratic leadership were mischaracterizing the economy, especially when you compare the coverage of today to the coverage during the Clinton administration. The Democratic operative keep harping on the fears of workers, (and someone responded with a great line: "The only people who are scared are those listening to the Democratic leaders"), and spouting typical class warfare talking points.

The truth is, our economy is stronger than ever, and every measure from unemployment, to mortgage rates, to interest rates in general, etc is at historically good levels.

The Iron Lady's War

On March 25, 1982 the United Kingdom officially responded to an Argentine invasion of the Falkland Islands. Argentina and the UK had been disputing the ownership of the islands for almost 150 years. The Islanders themselves clearly wanted to remain under the rule of the UK.

Prime Minister Thatcher reacted to the occupation of South Georgia by Argentines by sending a Royal Navy vessel to evict them on this day 24 years ago. The Argentine Navy moved to intercept the HMS Endurance, which then retreated to avoid conflict. Within a week, Argentuna and the United Kingdom were in a shooting war.

I was living in the UK at the time, and the Falklands War had a profound effect on the UK. It brought about a renewed sense of patriotism, but also forced the British public to deal with the horrors of a televised war. A lesser PM would have simply abandoned the Falkland Islands and the people who lived there. Baroness Thatcher is one of the UK's all time greats, and a true friend to the US to boot.

Thanks Maggie, and heres hoping I don't get your points this year.

College Basketball

Since when did they stop calling palming the ball? I have seen bits and pieces of lots of different NCAA and NIT games, and in nearly every one I have seen players palming the ball while dribbling it up the court. Is this just normal now? did they get rid of that rule?

What About Real Women?

In a column on TownHall.com, Jeff Jacoby takes the Men's Roe V Wade case to task. Now I've written previously on this blog about my thoughts, and in comments sections all over the internet. I agree with the basic premise of Matt Dubay and his lawyers: under current law, men are treated unequally and inequitably when it comes to reproduction and family law. My summation is : Women have many reproductive rights and few (no) responsibilities. Men have few (virtually none) reproductive rights and many responsibilities. I have laid out my case for this in my earlier post.

The basic premise of Jacoby's column is that real men support their children. I agree with this also. I believe both parents have a moral obligation to provide their children with the best possible environment to grow up in.

However where is the discussion of what a real women does? I believe a real women nutures and protects her child. She doesn't kill it in her womb, she doesn't abandon it in a closet, or even in a hospital ER. If she can't provide for it, she gives it up for adoption. I can hear the gasps flying up all over the blogosphere: "How dare you judge a woman's reproductibve choice!" My answer: Why the hell not? If it is OK (and I think it is) to state that a real man lives up to his obligations and supports his child, then why can't I say a real women lives up to her obligations and gives birth to her child?

As Jacoby says, when a man consents to sex (and sometimes when he doesn't or can't consent) he obligates himself to the possibility that the women will become pregnant, and he will have the responsibility to support his child. Why is it however that when a women consents to sex, she doesn't obligate herself to the possibility that she will become pregnant, and have the responsibility to give birth to her child?

The main argument that supports mandatory child support is that you do not punish the child, and must look after the interests of the child. This argument also supports mandating the woman to give birth to her child, which is why the Left is so insistent with it's nonsensical argument that the fetus is not human.

Jacoby places the blame for the status quo on "predatory males". I agree they are a problem, but I place as much blame on irresponsible women.

If all men behave like real men, and all women behaved like real women, the world would be a much better place.

Dr. Who Pt. 2

Well, I just saw the first episode. It was much better than I expected. The new Doctor is not as good as Tom Baker the Fourth Doctor, but not bad. He is the Ninth version of the character. (The character under goes periodic reincarnations that change his appearance, allowing new actors to play the role) The actor's name is Christopher Eccleston. The sidekick, Rose Tyler, is one of the best the Doctor has had. (I am not a dirty old man, she's only 17 years younger than me.) Her name is Billie Piper. She reminds me of a young Olivia D'Abo. (Whom I have lusted after ever since Conan the Destroyer and she is only 2 years younger than me.)

Unfortunately a little research has revealed that this Doctor only lasts for one series. (At least Rose continues to hang out with the next incarnation.)
