D Day Normandy

Today is the 63rd anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy. (one little known fact...there were lots of d-days...the first day of any amphibious landing was called d-day.) All honor to the brave soldiers who fought there.

But a brief thought or question.

What would have been the reaction to the American public to live (or nearly live) television coverage of the landings, and the carnage that ensued?

I don't think to can go retro on something like that. We wouldn't take it now because we have the weapons to avoid a D-Day style invasion.

What would people in 1945 think of watching our Army fight in the Mexican war or the War of 1812? Can you imagine WWII era soldiers marching shoulder to shoulder into cannon fire?
