A World Without America......

Just some alt history questions on this.

How can it even be close to possible that Stalin is alive much less in power after WWII if there is no America?

How did Sadam get to power if there is no America?

Ironically if there was no America there wouldn't be regulations to clean cities and thus no Polio problem.

This shows part of the problem in the world. We as Americans don't see how we intrude on other people...but the rest of the world just assumes that it is our obligation to fix all the major problems in the world.

Our shadow looms large but our strength carries a heavy load.

1) It is entirely possible that the USSR would still have won the war, it just would have taken much longer, and have been even more bloody.

2) Saddam came to power without US help. He murdered his way to the top of a military Junta that had nothing to do with us. It is true that we gave him aid when he was fighting Iran, but it served our purpose at the time.

3) That's simply too absurd to address.

4) The U.S. has been the biggest blessing the world has received.

I'm sorry what is too absurd?

Polio spread in large part because

"With improvements in waste disposal and the widespread use of indoor plumbing in the 20th century, epidemics of polio began to occur with regularity in the developed world, primarily in cities during the summer."

The rest of the world wasn't working on improvements in sanatation. America cleaned itself up and that resulted in a polio outbreak. The rest of the world wasn't working on cleaning itself up.

Irony nothing more.

there is debate about that. It is proposed that the CIA assisted. Given that he over threw a Pro-Communist government it would be possible.

1) Polio was around thousands of years before the United states.

The effects of a polio infection have been known since prehistory. Egyptian paintings and carvings depict otherwise healthy people with withered limbs, and children walking with canes at a young age

2) The amount of lives saved due to the supression of Cholera, Typhus, Typhoid and other endemic diseases far outnumber any increase in polio.

3) You want a real problem caused by Americans...how about the banning of DDT because of Rachel Carson and the environmentalists, which has caused millions of deaths due to malaria in Africa, Asia and South America.
