On this date in 1968, a mostly Black crowd gathered at a bowling alley in South Carolina to protest the alley's segregationist policies. The crowd grew violent, and the South Carolina police fired into the crowd, creating the Orangeburg massacre. This occurred before the Kent State shootings and got almost no attention.
