On this date in 1815, Napoleon Bonaparte entered Paris at the head of an army numbering in the hundreds of thousands, after escaping his exile on the island of Elba. This began the period known as
The Hundred Days. Eventually Napoleon would be defeated by the British and Prussians at the Battle of Waterloo. This would lead to Napoleon abdicating and being exiled again, this time to the island of St. Helena, where he would eventually die.
